We stayed at this farm last night. In fact, we have stayed for the last three nights at these working farms. Our rooms were in the renovated barn, and the food was superb. It is the French version of a country B and B.
After morning prayer and breakfast, we left this place, and left the Champagne area of France. We traveled south to the Ardenne Forest, where the Germans made their famous counterattack in the winter during World War II. Although the weather has been perfect so far, we began to get some clouds today.
We cycled 80 miles today. Our normal pattern is to stop at the first third for a snack, and then at the second third for lunch. Here is the crowd at a small village looking for lunch.
To save money, we usually buy sandwiches or some kind of wonderful French pastry and then sit on some curb somewhere to eat it. We are one classy pilgrim group!
Brad, Donald, Lynn, and Giancarlo are ready to make the final climb into Langres, where we will stay for the night. We have climbed nearly 4000 feet today. It is good practice for the Alps. We are staying in a hotel, because we could find nothing else in this area. Of course, we will celebrate Mass, have a wonderful French supper, pray evening prayer, and then go to bed. We have no difficulty sleeping!
