After Morning Prayer, we had a wonderful breakfast at the same place we enjoyed our fabulous dinner last night.
The woman in charge was very friendly and hospitable, as well as a fabulous cook. She gave us a big kiss when we left.
The countryside was beautiful with rolling hills and lots of climbing. We were warming up for the long climb to Berceto.
At the bridge, we ran into this statue of a pilgrim walking on the Francegina. We also met an English couple riding the Pilgrimage without support.
We then began our 12 mile climb up the Apennines, which is the mountain range forming the spine of Italy.
Tony and I tool a long break, while I tried to tell him that this is not as bad as climbing the Alps. The grade was between 6 and 10%.
We reached Berceto at 1:00 and had a great lunch of homemade pasta and beer.
We are staying at a great little B&B, enjoying extra time to chill out. We celebrated Mass in the local church founded by Saint Moderanno in the 7th century. Hardly any of my predecessors at Saint Pius have been canonized!
In this very simple and ancient church, we were given a small chapel where we celebrated Mass.
After Mass, we took a walk through this great little town in the Apennines which has been an important stop on the Francegina for centuries. We ate at the B&B for dinner, prayed Evening Prayer, and got some good rest.
